Pubic hair removal, a previously common trend only among women, has also become considerably popular in men. Removing pubic hair used to be just for aesthetic purposes; however, it now has become a matter of hygiene. More and more men and women are opting to remove their pubic hair for the simple reason of avoiding the chance of contracting sexually transmitted diseases or STDs.

Pubic Hair

Female pubic hair removal can be pretty convenient as there are a lot of spas and salons that provide waxing and other hair removal procedures for women. One of the most popular of these methods is the Brazilian wax, there is also the bikini wax. Male pubic hair removal on the other hand, is relatively unheard of – most men who opt to get rid of their pubic hair may have to do it by themselves at home. There are a number of ways to remove pubic hair; there are also a variety of pubic hair removal products. Most people use wet shaving techniques, while some use dry shaving techniques to get rid of pubic hair, others use pubic hair removal creams. Whatever the technique used, there are a few things you will need to do in order to avoid inconveniences such as ingrown hairs and infections.

If you choose to remove pubic hair through wet shaving using a razor and foam, you will need to put in a lot of time and effort to avoid any cuts in your genital area. The first thing you need to do is trim your pubic hair really short, this will simplify the shaving process. You can use electric shavers, clippers or trimmers to make things easier. Using scissors require extreme caution. After trimming, proceed to softening your pubic hair. You can do this by soaking the hair in warm water or you can take a hot shower. Softening the hair makes it easier to remove. You can then apply shaving lubricant after this. You can use shaving cream, gel or foam; you may then start shaving after this. Shave the hair in the same direction as the hair growth. Exfoliate after shaving. This way, you remove the dead skin and other substances that may clog your pores and cause ingrown hairs and other infections. You can exfoliate using a loofa sponge. Rinse off any hair left, pat the area dry and moisturize. You can use baby oil. Avoid using talcum powder or moisturizers that are infused with coloring agents as they may cause irritation.

Remember, your genital area may take some time to get accustomed to being shaved – it is a very sensitive area and you should take great care when shaving. Any sensitivity you experience when shaving may disappear after about five sessions. Achieving a perfectly smooth shave is highly improbable especially if you are new to pubic hair shaving; a closer shave may be achieved after you have more experience. So start slow and don’t rush shaving.
