Hair brushes are essential tools for growing healthy hair. These clean and massage the scalp, stimulating the release of the Sebum. Brushing the hair means cleaning the hair shaft, follicle and scalp by removing trapped scale, dirt, and oils. In addition, brushing distributes the mentioned beneficial oil, coating, lubricating, and protecting the hair shaft. This results in a healthy glow or sheen and soft flexible. As brushing stimulates the blood supply to the hair follicles, promoting healthy growth, the hair brush being used enables the increase in blood circulation in he head. This helps in the proper growth of hair.

Using the right ideal hair brush is vital in getting that healthy hair. Here are the basic types of hair brushes.

  • Circular or radial brushes

These circular or semi-circular types of brushes come in varied sizes and have either mixed bristles for finishing, and a rubber pad with nylon bristles, or metal pins for styling. Primarily, they are used to tame and control naturally curly, permed, and wavy hair.

  • Flat or half-round brushes

These type of brushes can be used for all aspects of wet and dry hairstyling and blow-drying. These are normally made of nylon bristles in a rubber base. An example of this type of brush is the paddle brush. The paddle brush is used in brushing long hair and for styling them. This also gives the head a slight scalp massage.

  • Flexi brushes with steam

Styling brushes with soft, flexible bristles characterize the flexi brushes with steam.  A water reservoir is incorporated in the brush, that when heated produces jets of steam designed to 'set' curls. These type of brushes are ideal creating soft, gentle curls and wave on longer hair.

  • Vent brushes

These are the types that have vented, hollow centers, allowing the airflow from the dryer to pass through them.

There are so many brushes you can try for your hair. The ideal brush will always depend on your hair length, style and type. You can also check with a trusted stylist for recommendations on an ideal brush for your hair.
