Choosing the right hairstyle is so important. Most women, if not all, feel great when their hair look great. The preferred hairstyle often reflects women's easy mood of fashion and beauty. On the other hand, one's hair should complement one's clothes and make up, especially one's personality. To determine the right hairstyle, you need to consider your lifestyle, hair type and texture, and the shape of your face.

Choose hairstyles based on your facial shapes as every hair style and hair cut can be well appreciated when it suits one's face shape. Observe the shape of your face. There are seven (7) basic types of facial shapes. These include the pear-shaped, oval, round, heart, long and thin, diamond, and square or rectangular.

Pear-shaped
This facial shape has two variations. One is having a wide forehead, narrow chin area and small cheekbones, and the other one is that with a narrow forehead and a wide jaw line with a round chin. For the former, it is suggested to avoid short-crop hairstyle and also hair tied back in a ponytail. Volume from the top should be decreased. For the latter, adding width to the forehead and the temples will draw the attention away from the face and up toward the ears.

Oval
Commonly, the face length of this facial shape is 1.5 times longer than its width, with the forehead slightly wider than the jaw. Many hair cuts and styles suit an oval face as this is considered a near-perfect facial shape by hair stylists. The most ideal style to go for are the ones that have layers that emphasize the best features of the face such as the cheekbones, lips or chin. Short layers at the top of the head should be avoided. These make the face look longer. In addition, oval-faced ladies having thick and curly hair should avoid blunt cut.

Round
This face shape is characterized by the round chin, making the face appear wide. Women having this shape should minimize hair width on the sides and around the ears to create a slim illusion of their face. Center partings and full fringes, as well as one-length hairgut or blunt cuts on short hair should be avoided.

Heart
The heart-shaped face has a wide forehead and a narrow chin. Strong points of a shape such as this are the eyes and the cheekbones. Women with longer hair can try long, wavy layers that come across to their cheekbones. This lends certain rounded look to the pointed chin, while those with short hair can keep the top layers soft and long or side-swept bangs.

Long and Thin
Women with long and thin face should avoid accentuating the shape of their face with a hanging straight hair. A style such as a bob cut will widen the face a bit, also giving it a soft look.

Diamond
The forehead is the most dominant area visible on the face of this type of shape, therefore the hairstyles suitable should tend to increase its width, disguising the cheekbones. This will give an illusion of an oval face. Adding more fringe and volume to the forehead and the chin enhances the cheekbones.

Square or Rectangular
Strong angular lines on the face characterize this particular facial shape. Short hair styles do not suit this type of face shape as they appear strong, emphasizing more on the angular lines. Chin-length looks with softness and texture should be more like it. A drawn back style with fullness at the back of the head, accentuating the cheekbones can be stunning.

No matter what face shape you have, it is also important to first deem the hairstyle you wear on on a day-to-day basis. For those who have a busy lifestyle, a hairstyle that requires minimum care and maintenance is suggested. This usually means a shorter look hair length is at the shoulder or below the ear lobe. On the contrary, for special occasions you may want to consider something that is new and exciting, one that you do not normally wear.
