Hair transplant procedures are considered to be the most effective way of coping with the effects of certain type of alopecia such as male pattern baldness. Hair transplant surgery entails the removal of a part of the scalp that bears hair and transplanting that part to a bald patch on the scalp. Recent advances in technology have made the process of hair transplantation very convenient as well as affordable that it is currently being seen as the most popular approach to restoring hair lost due to alopecia.

The processes involved in hair transplant procedures are very delicate and require a lot of precautions. For one, the surgeon performing the procedure must gather all relevant hair transplant information while in the stages of planning the surgery. When performing the transplant procedure itself, the hair will need to be treated with antibacterial chemicals to prevent the risk of infections.

The Hair Transplant Procedure
The success and effectiveness of a hair transplant surgery mostly depends on the hair transplant procedure used for the surgery. The use of a transplant procedure known as single follicular hair transplant has become a standard in conducting hair transplant surgeries. A high-quality hair restoration surgeon, as with almost all individuals in this profession, follows standard hair transplant procedures to give their patients excellent results.

Hair transplant surgeries normally involve the collection of a strip of hair from an area of the scalp that is still able to produce healthy growing hair. The strips that are removed from the donor site are tapered at the ends to allow for easy removal.  This narrow piece of scalp normally referred as the donor strip are handed to surgical assistance immediately after removal to further divide the strips into smaller parts. This procedure is known as slivering. These strips are then carefully stripped of any excess fat tissue to guarantee that the follicular cells are not damaged. The narrower strips are then further dissected into grafts with through the help of a dissection microscope. These grafts are the follicular unit graft, the micro graft, the mini grafts, the three-haired follicular groupings, and the four-haired follicular groupings.

After dissection, the recipient site will then be prepared. Slits or punctures for the grafts are created on the receiving area of the scalp with the use of a very fine needle and binocular microscopes for a close and thorough inspection. These punctures are created based on a pattern and density determined based on the hair transplant information derived from the patient himself. The natural direction of the hair is an important factor in creating these slits. Any slit made on the receiving area of the scalp must be made to go with the natural direction of hair growth. Another important consideration in making these slits are the sizes of the punctures. The size of the slit has to be the exact size as that of the graft.

If done accurately, hair transplant procedures can produce amazing results. These types of surgeries are also convenient since less time is required to separate the follicular units and do the actual transplant itself.
