Facial hair,
be it barely visible or really thick, is a problem especially on
women. It is a rather embarrassing situation and can be difficult
to solve. There are, however, several options available for getting
rid of facial hair. These solutions can either be temporary solutions
such as shaving or waxing, or the more permanent treatment such
as electrolysis or laser hair removal.
The methods available for removing facial hair are numerous. Some
involve the use of traditional methods such as shaving or tweezing,
others involve using creams, while some hair removal procedures
involve the use of sophisticated laser technology. The most popular
facial hair removal methods are:
• Depilatory creams
Depilatory or topical creams work by dissolving the hair at the
follicle base. This method of hair removal, however, is better used
on areas of the body that are not very sensitive such as the legs.
Using depilatory creams to remove facial hair may cause problems
as the cream may irritate the skin and may also leave some hair
behind. The main advantage on the use of depilatory creams for hair
removal is its price – it is inexpensive compared to the other
hair removal methods available.
• Electrolysis
Electrolysis is one of the more advanced facial removal procedures
available. This treatment procedure makes use of low-level electricity
to disable hair follicles, preventing them from producing hair.
The results of electrolysis last longer compared to waxing; however,
the process itself can take a bit of time and several visits to
the treatment center. This method can also be quite expensive.
• Laser hair removal
Laser hair removal is a very effective method for removing facial
hair. This technology works by using a laser that produces light
which can be absorbed by the skin, which then penetrates the follicles
and disables it. This method can also be a bit expensive and will
take several salon visits to achieve desired results; however, the
end result of laser facial hair removal (link to laser facial hair
removal) is often quite good.
• Shaving
A temporary method to remove facial hair is shaving. It is probably
the most ineffective method as it simply cuts the hair off. Shaving
needs to be done with the use of a moisturizer to allow the razor
or blade to simply glide over the skin, avoiding cuts or scrapes.
• Waxing
Waxing is a very popular method of hair removal. It is effective
for use in removing hair on the upper lip as well as on the side
burn area. Waxing is generally a problem free method, however, darker
skinned women may experience discoloration or irritation after waxing.
The results derived from waxing generally last between two to six
weeks.
There are a lot of methods to choose from. Before selecting a treatment,
consider all the options. Do your research and consult a specialist
– this way, you get the best possible treatment for your skin
and hair type and the best value for your money as well.
