Toni Braxton

Toni was born October 7, 1967 in Severn, Maryland. She began singing in her church choir, but because of her family’s religious beliefs, gospel was the only music she was allowed to listen to. However, Toni and her four sisters would sneak to watch Soul Train. She started entering and winning local talent shows and had entered college in the hopes of becoming a music teacher.

After being discovered, Toni dropped out of school and the five Braxton girls released a single called “The Good Life” in 1990. Toni would sign with a new label the next year and would have a song featured on the Boomerang soundtrack. Her solo debut would come in 1993 and would go to #1 on both the pop and the R&B charts. The album would feature 3 top ten singles and would eventually sell well over eight million copies. Awards would follow this album and would continue throughout her career, including no less than six Grammy awards.

Toni’s second album, “Secrets” would be released in 1996 and would feature the monster hit, “Un-Break My Heart”, which would remain on the pop charts for 11 weeks. This album would be the second to sell over eight million copies. Everything was not good for Toni though. She would be sued by her label in 1997 and her legal struggles would continue to plague her career for two years. Her third album would finally arrive in 2000 and entered the charts at #2.

Toni sported cropped, dark hair for the video for her biggest hit, but the latest pictures on her website feature long, flame red hair with subtle waves.
