Reese Witherspoon

Born March 22, 1976 in Nashville, Tennessee, Reese began performing in television commercials by the time she was seven years old. She appeared in the Lifetime cable network movie, “Wildflower” before getting her major motion picture debut in “The Man in the Moon.” Reese was still in high school when she followed up her debut with “Jack the Bear” which starred Danny DeVito and the Disney movie, “A Far Off Place”. Both films were released in 1993 and the latter had the young actress living in the Kalahari Desert for several months. That same year she also had a role in the CBS mini-series, “Return to Lonesome Dove”.

Reese put her acting career on hold and earned a degree from Stanford University, majoring in English Literature.  Upon completion, she returned to the screen and in 1996 starred opposite Mark Wahlberg in the thriller, “Fear”. That same year, she was again terrorized, this time by Kiefer Sutherland in the movie, “Freeway”.  In 1998, two movies starring Reese were released. “Twilight” did poorly at the box office, despite big name stars in the cast, but the second project was a large success. “Pleasantville” starred Reese as Tobey Maguire’s sister and did well both with critics and at the box office.

Reese followed up Pleasantville with a starring role in “Election” which also starred Matthew Broderick. The next year found her as the target  of Ryan Phillipe’s lust in “Cruel Intentions”. The pair would not only work well together on screen, they would soon marry. Unfortunately that marriage would end in 2006.

Witherspoon had a small role in 2000 with “American Psycho” but she was about to have a role handed to her that cemented her role as a super star. “Legally Blonde” grossed over $100 million dollars and had the name Reese Witherspoon on practically everyone’s lips.  She followed the hit up with “Sweet Home Alabama” in 2002. “Just Like Heaven” opened in 2005 with lukewarm reception, but Reese was about to have her luck change.

Walk the Line”, the biopic about Johnny Cash netted Reese both an Oscar for Best Actress and a Golden Globe in the same category for her portrayal of June Carter Cash.  Reese released Legally Blonde 2: Red, White and Blonde which tanked at the box office. She also starred in Vanity Fair, but the period piece failed to connect with general audiences as well.

Reese has golden blonde, All-American girl hair. She looks sophisticated and mature when she wears it in elaborate styles, and sporty and fun when she simply pulls the sides back from her pretty face.
