Mariah Carey

Mariah was born March, 27, 1970 and moved to New York City when she was only 17- the day after she graduated from high school. Her first professional singing credit is as a backing vocalist for Brenda K. Starr. In 1990, she released her self titled debut album which contained four # 1 singles for her. Mariah walked away with Grammys for Best New Artist and Best Female Vocalist that year.

The following year, Mariah released her follow up album, “Emotions” which went to number one and became her fifth consecutive hit. In 1992, Mariah’s “MTV Unplugged” ep was released and contained her version of the Jackson 5’s hit, “I’ll be There”.  1993 was a busy year for her, she released “Music Box” and then married record producer, Tony Mottola.

Mariah released “Daydream” in 1995. That album would debut at #1 making her the first female and second artist ever to do this. Two years later, Mariah separated from her husband and released the album “Butterfly”. Soon she was looking for a new label to work with and signed an $80 million deal with Virgin records, the biggest such deal ever. Her first Virgin release, “Glitter” and the movie of the same name fell dead on the charts and Virgin ended up buying out the rest of her lengthy, expensive contract. Mariah’s ninth album, “Charm bracelet” also failed to sell well and things started to look bad for the singer.

After some personal and creative problems, Mariah came back with 2005’s “The Emancipation of Mimi”. That album went multi platinum and earned Mariah her 18th #1 and a Grammy.

Mariah has had many shades of hair over the years from pale honey blonde to a deep rich chocolate brown, but she looks the best in the middle range, with slight red overtones to brighten the color a bit. She usually wears it slightly long, just below her shoulders and allows the natural texture to shine through. She has worn it straightened, and while attractive, it is not as stunning as the hair that Mother Nature meant for Mariah to have.
