Madonna

Madonna was born in 1958 in Michigan. She wanted to study ballet and went to New York to accomplish her dream. She modeled to make ends meet while waiting for her big break, which came with her 1983 debut album. The song, Holiday from that album became the first of many Top Forty hits. Borderline was the first in the Top Ten and would be the first of a record 17 consecutive top tens for the pop star. At the same time her musical career was heading skyward, Madonna starred in the movie Desperately Seeking Susan. The movie did well and it looked like Madonna may have another career on her hands.

Madonna’s second album, Like a Virgin, was a chart topper and the single by the same name ruled for over six weeks. She went out on tour in support of the album and sold out venues from coast to coast. Meanwhile, Madonna had married actor Sean Penn and appeared in the film Shanghai Surprise with him. That movie would be declared a colossal flop and would be the subject of ridicule for some months to follow.

Undeterred, Madonna made the movie Who’s That Girl? Along with the soundtrack of the same name. The album did alright, but the movie was yet another box office bomb.  But, the ever versatile Madonna rolled with the punches and soon was making her mark on Broadway in Speed the Plow.  She would eventually make other movies, but most of them were clunkers by everybody’s standards. Evita did enjoy some moderate success, but Dick Tracy was bigger, especially when the rumors started swirling that she was carrying on an affair with costar Warren Beatty. She would also be well received in A League of Their Own which also featured one of her songs.

Madonna had began her career as a dancer, went on to singing and then acting. She had conquered most of the arts, and now would move on to another. Her controversial book, Sex, does  not necessarily qualify her as an author, but ironically her very successful children’s books do.

Madonna is a chameleon, changing musical styles, clothing styles and hair styles in an effort to always present a newer, better version of herself. Her hair has been every shade from jet black to platinum blonde, and has been nearly every conceivable length as well. Her most recent look is a very flattering shoulder length, with a mellower blonde color. She allows it to be wavy, but is often seen with it poker straight.
