Lucy Liu

Born December 2, 1968, Liu grew up speaking both English and Mandarin and worked on a higher education before pursuing an acting career. She holds a degree in Asian languages and culture from the University of Michigan, and studied acting, dance and voice while there. Her role on the Fox series, Ally McBeal was not just a case of good fortune, that character was written especially for her by the show’s creator. Not only did he write the character Ling Woo for her, he realized he would have to make her a regular cast member after she connected so well with audiences.

Ally McBeal is not Lucy’s only TV credit, she also appeared on several episodes of ER as a then relatively unknown young actress. In 1999, Lucy made the jump to the silver screen with Payback and Molly. She also had roles in Play it to the Bone and Shanghai Noon before her really big shot came with the 2000 blockbuster Charlie’s Angels. Between the first installment of that film and the follow up, Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle, Lucy made four films, none of which were worth mentioning.

Lucy has long, jet black hair. She wears it down most of the time, but has pulled it up for more formal occasions.
