Kate Winslet

Born October 5, 1975 the beautiful Libra was destined by the stars and sheer family connection to be an actress. Kate’s grandparent’s Oliver and Linda Bridges formed the Reading Repertory Theater. Mom, Dad, an uncle and two sisters are also actors- only her brother escaped the bite of the acting bug.

Kate had her professional acting debut at the age of eleven in a commercial for children’s cereal. After she graduated from a performing arts high school, she started acting in stage productions and appeared on British television. The chance soon came for her to appear in films, first with “Sense and Sensibility” with Emma Thompson and Hugh Grant. For that film role, Kate received an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress.

Although she did not win the Oscar, she did win the Screen Actor’s Guild Award For Outstanding Performance by a Female in a Supporting Role as well as the British Academy of Film and Television Arts Best Supporting Actress Award.

In 1996, Kate returned to the roles of corsets with “Jude” and “Hamlet” in which she played Ophelia. The following year, Kate got one of her most known roles in the epic tragedy, “Titanic”. For her portrayal of Rose, she earned her second nomination for an Oscar, becoming the youngest to have received two such nods. In 2006, Kate provided her voice for the animated film, “Flushed Away” and the following year, she earned her fifth Golden Globe nomination.

Kate’s hair has changed to fit roles and to reflect changes in her life stage, but she favors a slightly longer cut with natural curls and waves. The deep rich red of her Titanic days is gone, replaced by a buttery blonde with less curl and more wave.
