Christina Aguilera

Born December 18, 1980 in Staten Island, New York, young Christina was a military brat, moving from place to place, country to country for much of her young life. At the age of 6, she began appearing in and winning talent shows in the family’s then current city of Pittsburgh.  She also appeared in Star Search in 1988, but she lost that show’s competition.

In 1992, Christina became one of the new Mickey Mouse Club mousketeers, remaining for two years. She then moved to Japan and released a hit duet with a popular local singer. After that success, she moved back to the states to ardently pursue her own career. One of her earliest credits is for the song “Reflection” recorded for the animated film, “Mulan”.

The following year, Christina released her debut album, and the first single from that project topped the charts for five weeks. The album itself had over eight million dollars in sales in the United States alone. The second single “What a Girl Wants” also did well, and Christina found herself singing at the White House Christmas Gala and at the Superbowl halftime show. That year saw her winning the Grammy for Best New Artist.

Christina wanted to find a way to express her heritage, and released the Spanish language album “Mi Reflejo” in 2000 despite the fact that she did not actually speak the language. Two years later, following a battle with producers and label execs, Christina defiantly released the album “Stripped”. From the topless cover photo, to the nude cover of Rolling Stone that she posed for that year, Christina sent the message loud and clear that she was not a child to be pushed around. The first single from that album was “Dirrty” a growling, call to arms to anyone who thought they could push her around, while the second, the ballad “Beautiful” showcased her powerful vocal range. In 2006, Christina changed her image yet again with the release of the album “Back to Basics” a throwback to jazz and blues from the 20’s-40’s.

Just as her music has changed and evolved dramatically through the years, so has Christina’s hair. At one point it is rumored that she was warned not to continue with the extreme dye jobs that she was constantly getting or risk losing her hair completely. From pale blonde with pink streaks to wild dark black with corn rows, Christina has had every conceivable hair style known to man.
