Johnson Born
October 13, 1952 in Buffalo, New York, the 55 year old former
model broke color barriers in her field, paving the way
for the next generation of African-American models that
would follow in her stylish foot steps.
Although Johnson never did make a huge
leap into either TV or film, she did appear in small roles
on a number of projects, often as herself. Beginning with
Emergency! In 1972, she did more print work than anything
else. After spreads in Essence and Ebony, she became the
very first African-American woman to appear on the cover
of Vogue.
After stopping her modeling career, Beverly
began her own wig and wig care company, with innovative
products and her own website to tout them. In her life,
both as a model and a busy, professional woman, Beverly
has worn wigs and wanted all women to have the same quality
available to them as well. Her own hair is not often seen
in public, she prefers a variety of her wig products so
that she can change her style to suit her mood and the occasion.
In 2008, Johnson returned to the public
eye with the reality show, “She’s Got the Look”,
which features women over the age of forty in a modeling
contest.
