| Bettie Page
Born April 22,1923 in Tennessee,
Bettie Page was and is probably one of the most popular
pin ups of all times. Her life was a picture of pain and
tragedy from the very start, and the end of her career was
shrouded in mystery- so much so that she has inspired a
movie, as well as more than a few rumors, some of them dark.
At the age of 10, Bettie and her siblings
were placed in an orphanage by their mother who could no
longer afford to raise them. Bettie did well in school,
becoming class Salutatorian and earning a small scholarship
to Peabody College. While there, she studied Education,
but dreamt of other, bigger things. In 1943, she married
Billy Neal. After earning her Bachelor of Arts from Peabody,
Page began modeling for extra money. Her first client was
a furrier; Bettie modeled the fur coats.
Her marriage ended in 1947, and not long
afterward she was named Miss Pinup Girl of the World and
also appeared as the centerfold in Playboy magazine. A second
marriage in 1958 lasted five years.
Bettie Page had the trademark page boy
hair style of the times, but was often seen with longer,
more vixenish coifs as well. Her hair was deep black, playing
dramatically against her creamy, pale skin.
