| Alicia Keys
Alicia Keys has talent, no one
can deny that, but she has honed that talent since she was
seven years old. The New York native wrote her first song
at the age of fourteen, at a time when most young women
her age worry about acne and finishing their homework, and
of course, young men their age. Her 2001 debut, Songs in
A Minor, was a smash success and sold well over 20 million
albums worldwide. Her single, “Fallin’”
topped both the R&B charts as well as the pop chart
and has been a favorite among American Idol contest for
better or for worse. At one point, the song had earned the
dubious honor of being the only song banned from the try
out stage after the judges had listened to one too many
mangled version of it.
Alicia has won recognition not only for
her classic good looks and understated style, but for her
musical strength as well. Her talents have garnered her
several awards, including five Grammy’s. Among her
Grammy awards is Best New Artist and Best R&B album.
Alicia Keys was born January 25, 1980 in
New York. Her favored hairstyle is the tightly braided look
she sported during her debut, and for the video for Fallin’,
but in later videos wore her hair in a softer, freer manner.
