| Aaliyah:
Too Beautiful to Die So Soon
Although the beautiful young woman died in a tragic plane
crash at the age of twenty-two, Aaliyah touched all who
worked with her, from her peers to the behind the scene
crew members. Her fans remember her as talented, classy
and always a hard, hard worker.
Aaliyah was born January 16, 1976 in the
New York borough of Brooklyn. Her unusual name is a Swahili
word which means “most exalted one”. The name
may have helped her gain attention, but it was her clear,
sweet voice that made her famous. Her debut album; “Age
Ain’t Nothing But a Number” was very successful
and spawned two major single hits, “Back and Forth”
and “At Your Best(You Are Love)”.
Although she was receiving quite a bit
of success and acclaim with her musical efforts, Aaliyah
also wanted to branch out into acting and did so with her
big screen debut “Romeo Must Die” opposite martial
art actor Jet Li and rapper, DMX. The remake of the classic
Romeo and Juliet did well at the box offices and is still
does well on the rental market. Aaliyah also played the
role of Akasha, the Mother of all Vampires in the movie
“Queen of the Damned“, based on the Anne Rice
novel of the same name.
Aaliyah had some of the most beautiful
hair in the world, so silky and black that it looked like
velvet. In most of her videos and personal appearances,
she favored a simpler, toned down style, but even the most
subdued look could not hide its glossy, healthy sheen.
