The introduction of popular and modern culture is often attributed to the 50s and the changes that occurred during this time. This decade was one that was defined for the concept of freedom as well as a sense of release from the past decade. With World War II being over, those who were in the culture were using this time to celebrate. This not only included more freedom with everyday society, but also an introduction into modernism through the continuous rise of cinema and pop culture, beginning with the concept of rock and roll.

The 1950′s hairstyles that reflected the sense of freedom and popular culture included several divisions into specific looks. For example, men tended to divide into the business world and the world of rock and roll. The business role took a more conservative approach to short cuts and parted hair on the side. The world of rock and roll; however, introduced styles such as the quiff style, which was short hair that was pulled back but which had a higher set of bangs at the front area.

The same concept of freedom and a new sense of living also changed the way that 1950′s hairstyles were approached by women. Short to medium length hair was popular during this time, which was combined with a sense of luxury for the look. For instance, curls or partially pulled back hair was popular for this time. For women that were interested in a different shape were the crop cut and shorter look that showed the same sense of freedom. Women that were more feminine in looks would often wear partially pulled back looks that created a sense of comfort with style.

The different defining points that were a part of the 1950s hairstyles included a movement forward into freedom for those that were interested in the growth of popular culture and the changing face of politics. The newly defined freedoms that were defined during this era included influences through the growth of celebrities as well as everyday styles that made a difference in the looks by those that were interested in a new sense of fashion.
